The Sussex Courier stepped in to return an old photo a reader discovered in a car park – and found it was a retired journalist who turned up to claim it!

The paper carried the photo in last week’s edition and former hack Michael Hand was delighted to spot his picture on the pages.

The picture was of his grandmother and he’d dropped it when he went into a Tonbridge photo shop to get a copy made. The photo, and its copy, were handed in to the Tonbridge Courier offices.

Mr Hand told readers: “The woman in the photograph is my grandmother Ada Annie Butchers.

“She was born in Surrey in 1874 and it was probably taken at the turn of the last century.”
