Counter Attack gets off to a flying start

Fraudsters and thieves in Torbay are receiving unwelcome publicity in the Torquay Herald Express.

In partnership with local police, the paper has launched a new crime initiative in the shape of a weekly feature called Counter Attack.

The feature aims to expose those wanted for questioning in connection with a series of offences around Torbay – and so far it has been a resounding success.

Since being launched two weeks ago, seven photographs of wanted shoplifters and fraudsters have been published as part of Counter Attack.

Of those, police now have names for six individuals, one of whom gave himself up at a police station.

Many of the photographs featured related to crimes which were months old and for which police had few, if any, leads.

Torbay police are extremely pleased with the feature’s success so far.

PC John Moore said: “We have been pleasantly surprised about how successful it has been.

“We have had several calls, giving not only the names of suspects but also their addresses. So far only one person has remained unidentified.”
