Complete new look for Welsh title

The Powys County Times & Express has gone on sale with a complete new look for its latest edition.

The flagship North Wales Newspapers weekly has a new masthead and change of headline and text fonts.

Graham Breeze, editor in chief of NWN’s weekly titles, said: “The new look gives the title even greater credibility and gives it a commanding presence on news-stands.”

The redesign took four months from the start of initial talks with Peter Sands at the Editorial Centre in Hastings.

Graham and County Times editor Martin Wright (right) then worked closely with the Editorial Centre staff to put together a new look.

With an average weekly sale of over 18,300 the County Times was already the market leader with extensive coverage of Powys.

Graham said: “It was really very much a broadsheet in tabloid clothing following the switch five years ago.

“Now the County Times is much cleaner and easier to read. It has better signposting, clearer sections ad a new design which is pleasing on the eye. The great thing is that the already outstanding content volume has not been affected.”

The group is now looking for increased sales after backing the revamp with a ‘Proud To Be Local’ promotion involving local radio advertising and a county wide poster campaign tagged ‘A Fresh Look At Local News’.
