Citizen hands petition to PM

The Gloucester Citizen followed up its debate on a waste-recycling plant by handing a petition for a public inquiry to the Prime Minister.

The 300-strong list was handed over as Mr Blair visited the flood-stricken areas of Gloucestershire.

He is said to be aware of the explosion and threat of contamination from CSG at Sandhurst, and has been handed letters sent to the local MP Laurence Robertson on the issue.

Since the blast, hundreds of people living within 10 miles of the site have complained of rashes, headaches and memory loss, according to The Citizen.

And 25 people have still been unable to return to their homes.

The Prime Minister was unable to comment on the situation, but fisheries and countryside minister Elliot Morley told the paper: “We have been made well aware of the problem and what people think about it.”

He said the company’s licence had been suspended.
