Chance surprise for marathon man

A long-distance runner got a surprise when the Wells Journal reported his participation in the New York marathon.

Berni Mundy was leafing through the paper to read about his charity run which raised £3,000 for cerebal palsy sufferers.

Berni found the piece and smiled when he saw that the paper had used a photo of him and and his wife Ros standing outside their Broadway hotel.

But he couldn’t believe his eyes when he looked at the opposite page – which featured a picture of the VE Day celebrations in 1945.

For prominent in the photo were both his mother Ethel and his Aunt Anne.

The use of the photos was entirely coincidental, but for Berni it must have seemed more than a little spooky!
