Carry on hunting say Echo readers

As the debate about fox hunting rumbles on, the Lincolnshire Echo has decided to ask its readers whether they want a ban.

And the people of Lincolnshire have voted overwhelmingly in favour of keeping fox hunting as it is.

The newspaper receieved 1,779 phone votes, of which 1,021 were against a ban.

John Green, master of the Burton Hunt, said: “I think it pretty accurately reflects the true feeling of most people in the county.

“I think it shows that the campaign for a ban is being whipped up by the larger urban areas who neither understand nor appreciate the self control that currently exists.”

Philippa Mayo, the pro-hunt Countryside Alliance’s Lincolnshire representative, said; “It goes to show that most people do not believe the Government should be wasting time on a hunting ban when there are more important issues to tackle.”
