Carlisle ahead again

A Carlisle doctor gave an exclusive interview to local evening paper the News & Star following the announcement that he was NOT going to face a manslaughter charge following the death of a patient from a methadone overdose.

The News & Star had beaten the nationals and led the way when the story of Dr John Gordon’s arrest broke in February.

The GP told the newspaper that the man who died, 18-year-old Keir Hamilton, had tricked him into thinking he needed the heroin substitute.

Dr Gordon (50) told the newspaper that he does not feel responsible for Mr Hamilton’s death as he does not believe it was the methadone he prescribed which killed him.

He said that Carlisle’s methadone prescription scheme was saving lives.

Dr Gordon, who received hundreds of messages of support during the police probe, intends to return to work in the next few weeks.
