Cancer claims life of journalist and lecturer

A former regional press journalist, turned journalism lecturer, has died aged 43.

Nick Maybury, who previously worked for the Sheffield Star, Northampton Chronicle & Echo, and Aberdeen Evening Express, had been suffering from cancer.

He had also worked at the East Anglian Daily Times, for a total of eight years in two spells, in a number of subbing roles and as editor of its website.

Nick left the East Anglian Daily Times in November 1999 to lecture full-time at the Southampton Institute, and he had also previously taught subbing at the London College of Printing.

EADT editor Terry Hunt said: “Nick was a consummate professional who simply loved the world of newspapers.

“My abiding memory of him will be working with him to produce a special Sunday edition of the EADT on the day the Princess of Wales died.

“We started work at 5am and by 10am had produced a complete edition of the newspaper. Nick’s contribution to it was immense.”
