Wake-up call as Star stops county 'going to pot'

The South Bucks Star has issued a rousing wake-up call to roads officials who claim they want to be rid of potholes – but leave them unfilled for days after they are reported.

The Star is asking readers to call a Pothole Line to report defects in the road.

Then it will contact the local politicians in a bid to get them fixed – and also print a regular Gone to Pot roll of shame in the newspaper to let readers know which areas are being neglected.

Bucks County Council, which is responsible for most of the county’s roads, pledges to get rid of 90 per cent of them within 24 hours – if the public lets officers know.

But some defects slip through the net.

The Star’s sister paper Midweek reported how it had informed council workers of a serious hole in the road, which took another 11 days to get repaired.

Their campaign has received backing from the AA, the Bucks Association for the Blind and other groups of road users.
