Time running out for project

A campaign to save a children’s project is pulling out all the stops to raise £60,000 in just eight weeks.

St George’s Community and Children’s Project in Tunbridge Wells has taken on a £150,000 mortgage and sold its garden in a last-ditch bid to meet a price tag placed on the premises by the building’s owners, the Children’s Society.

The valuable project could close if the cash is not raised.

The Kent and Sussex Courier is backing the campaign to Save St George’s, which is the only childcare facility in the town offering subsidised childcare places to low income parents.

It caters for 180 children and is run by a committee and 29 staff.

The committee has worked out that if everyone involved can raise £200 it would almost match the sum required to save the service.
