Theatre "safe" thanks to local coverage

Coverage in the Streatham, Clapham, and Dulwich Guardian has helped save London theatre the Oval House.

The theatre, used by youngsters all over the capital, was threatened by loss of a long-standing support from the Association of Local Government, which wanted to cut £50,000-worth of projects at the theatre.

The cut in funding would have dealt a severe blow to the company, which maintain links with the community through arts and education projects.

And the Oval House has seen tireless campaigning by many people to have the decision reversed.

Over the years, the theatre has seen many actors who have gone on to greater things. Pierce Brosnan and Tim Roth have both treaded the boards of the Oval House.

Reaction to the news has been relief, and a spokesman said: “Special thanks go to the Streatham, Clapham and Dulwich Guardian, which gave its backing, because many young people from this area would have been affected by the cut.
