Telegraph helps create floral road safety message

The Derby Evening Telegraph has teamed up with the city council to deliver a sobering message to motorists – with the use of a flower bed.

Four gardeners spent three days transforming an ordinary sloping flowerbed in to a thing of beauty – with a very serious point.

The display is designed to highlight the Telegraph’s Think First campaign, which aims to reduce the number of road accidents in Derby and its surrounding area.

  • Telegraph editor Mike Norton said: “We are delighted that the Think First campaign is being given such a high public profile.

“The main point of Think First is to get us all to think more carefully when using the roads – and a floral display that’s seen by thousands of people each day is an ideal vehicle for that message.

“It’s also a visually stunning testament to the skills of the council staff involved.”

The display features the campaign logo and the slogan, ‘Let’s drive death off Derbyshire’s roads’, and is made up of 8,500 plants.
