Telegraph all set to restore Park Pride

As part of its Park Pride campaign, the Grimsby Telegraph has organised a mass clean-up operation of the town’s People’s Park.

Dozens of volunteers are set to descend on the park this Sunday in a bid to restore its appearance for the paper’s family fun day a week later.

Grimsby Telegraph editor Michelle Lalor said: “Sunday, August 17, promises to be a fantastic day of action, demonstrating the power of the community coming together for a common goal.

“The more the merrier, however, as there is plenty to do in People’s Park.

“We do not pretend it will solve all of its problems in one day but it should have a dramatic impact on the overall look of the park.”

Volunteers will be helping to replant flower beds and mend surrounding fencing, clean the bandstand, remove graffiti and undertake general maintenance,

North East Lincolnshire Council’s localities manager Alan Fletcher is helping to coordinate the day. He said: “It has been terrific how everybody has come together for the 17th.

“A lot of work has been put in to prepare for the day. We are grateful to everybody who has volunteered their services and I know with that we will be able to make a real difference.”

  • Organisations that have put forward representatives to work alongside local residents and Telegraph staff at the park include The Friends of People’s Park, North East Lincolnshire Council, the Safe and Clean team, Radio Humberside, the council’s Neat Streets team and a local Young Offending Team.
