Tanzania trip will follow Star appeal

Reporter Greg Jones and photographer Terry Morris from the Llanelli Star are planning a trip to Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro region to help deliver educational and medical supplies to poverty-stricken Africans.

The South Wales weekly newspaper has teamed up with the Aid into Africa organisation, and readers are being urged to donate books and toys which will be distributed to youngsters in the region at the end of February.

The Star launched its appeal after Aid into Africa chief Alan Cable moved to the paper’s patch and became a reader of local edition The Burry Port Star.

With the help of sponsorship deals from local businesses, Star reporter Greg Jones and photographer Terry Morris will travel to Tanzania and track the goods as they are distributed.

Greg said: “We launched our appeal on December 11 after we’d worked hard to tie up the sponsorship deals and links with local businesses willing to act as collection points for the donated goods.

“Although Christmas is such a busy time for so many people we’ve received enough goods to fill a Transit van within two weeks.”
