Sun shines on Echo fund

The Liverpool Echo’s Sunrise Fund, designed to help charities all over Merseyside, has raised £12,000 on the day of its launch.

The paper held a glittering launch party at its city centre offices that helped get the fund off to a flying start.

All the money raised will go towards helping some of the 2,798 registered charities in Merseyside.

Speaking at the launch, Echo editor Mark Dickinson said: “This is no ordinary newspaper charity campaign. We won’t just be highlighting an already existing charity in the paper.

“This is a charitable fund in itself, which will be administered by the Charities Trust.

“With readers help, we will be able to fund MacMillan nurses and doctors for Merseyside families.

“But as well as MacMillan we will be offering one-off donations to all sorts of charities all over the region – which means everyone will be helped from four-year old children at Alder Hey to a 40 year old man benefiting from cancer research.”

The Echo decided not to give to one charity exclusively, but will instead try and help as many as possible by handing out one-off donations from the fund.
