Reporter with a head for heights scales the Avon Gorge

Bristol Evening Post reporter Lucy Parkinson climbed the Avon Gorge to raise money for the paper’s One In Four campaign.

Lucy, and her friend Carrie Browne, (both 23), raised more than £150 for the appeal which helps cancer sufferers and their carers in Bristol.

The pair climbed four different routes on the gorge and then abseiled off the top.

Lucy said: “I sit with campaign co-ordinator Sarah Key [at the Evening Post] and we were exchanging ideas and I said I’d like to climb the Avon Gorge.

“It’s a well-known landmark and we wanted to keep it local. We did loads of different routes which got longer and harder as we went on.

“We had a great time, as well as it being a great way of raising money for the paper’s campaign to raise funds for cancer treatment. It was hard work but very rewarding and worthwhile.

“I would definitely encourage others to have a go too, and help raise money for One In Four. We would like to say thanks to Undercover Rock for donating their time to help with the fundraising event.”

• The One In Four appeal has so far raised more than £50,000 since it began a year ago.
