Race for cash

Children’s groups in the North East of Scotland are set to benefit from the Aberdeen Evening Express Children 2000 campaign.

The newspaper is receiving applications from any group that helps to benefit children in the area and is asking readers to choose which projects are given the cash.

The groups can apply for £250, £500 or £1,000 from the newspaper cashpot and for every £2,000 the Evening Express raises it will give money to two groups that have applied in the £250 category and one group each from the other sections.

In past years groups benefiting from the campaign have included medical research projects and playgroups needing money to buy more toys.

The organisations are being asked to make their applications by the end of March and the groups will be highlighted in the newspaper before readers are asked to collect tokens and use them to vote for which projects are awarded the cash.

Each week the newspaper will print a league table of how much money has been raised, how many projects would be helped and how many tokens each project has collected.

Token voting will finish at the end of October and the groups who are to be given the money will receive the payouts from the Evening Express in time for Christmas 2001.
