Quids in at centre attraction

A shopping centre’s festive display of animated penguins led to a massive boost for a newspaper campaign.

Laura’s Playpark Appeal was launched by the Paisley Daily Express to raise the funds needed to build a lasting memorial to Laura Donnelly, a Paisley girl who was raped and murdered in 1999.

The Piazza shopping centre, in Paisley town centre, made the donation of £1,253 to the appeal from the coins children and adults threw into the animated display.

Maureen Hill from the Piazza management team said: “Shoppers were magnificent as usual. The display is always very popular and a number of charities have been given donations from the collection in the past.”
