The Weston and Somerset Mercury has launched a campaign to end the problem of drugs in Weston.
The campaign is being run in conjunction with Avon and Somerset Police and aims to try to make Weston a safer place.
Detective Sergeant Jon Mattick said: “Drugs play a big part in a great deal of crime in Weston. If your house has been burgled, there is a high chance it was carried out by someone on drugs looking to feed their addiction.”
A free telephone hotline called Shop a Dealer has been set up with a direct link to Weston Police station.
Callers will hear a recorded welcome message and be asked to leave details about someone they suspect may be a drug dealer and they can remain anonymous if they wish.
Mercury news editor Andy Ridgway said: “By setting up the hotline we are giving our readers a chance to give information to the police without the fear of any repercussions. The information could be the key to an arrest.”
