Poster bid to step up campaign

People of historical Leith have stepped up the campaign to save its name with the help of the Edinburgh Evening News.

Residents of Leith, known as Leithers, have been fighting the decision by Scotland’s Boundary Commission to change the constituency name to Edinburgh North East.

Now the Evening News is supplying every one of their readers with a Keep Leith poster for them to display and show their support. They will now be displayed all over the town and one will even be promoting the Leith cause to the Canadians.

Liane Fraser, from Montreal, said she was “annoyed” when she heard of the impending changes and plans to put posters up around her home.

  • The Evening Express, in Aberdeen, has also published its own posters in a bid to save historic Huntly, part of Gordon, where the famous Highlanders hail from. A 400-strong petition is now circulating.
