PM announces court fight progress

Tony Blair has taken time out to answer a series of key questions put to him by the Bolton Evening News.

The Prime Minister addressed a variety of topics that directly affect Bolton – and revealed some positive news for one of the paper’s key campaigns.

The article also saw the PM speak about proposals to save the struggling hospital and the town’s manufacturing trade. Mr Blair also shared his opinion on issues such as crime, and outlines his views on what he believes should be done to tackle the growing problems on Bolton’s streets.

In a reflection of local opinion, he said how he believes Bolton should retain its own magistrates’ court (see our previous story) and that it should be replaced by a new, more modern building.

He revealed the latest developments in deliberations by the Greater Manchester Magistrates’ Courts Committee on the issue and said: “I am pleased to say that, following discussions with the Court Service, the GMMCC believes that there is a very strong case for a new magistrates’ court in Bolton.

“That would mean a magistrates’ court with modern facilities for the town at last. The final announcement should be made before too long.”
