Parents unite in support of Advertiser campaign

Parents have united to support the Walsall Advertiser’s campaign to open a 24-hour drugs crisis centre in the town.

Hundreds of people have visited the paper’s offices on Bradford Street to sign a petition in support of the plan.

Advertiser editor Natalie Missenden said the facility would have a positive impact on thousands of lives.

She said: “A drugs crisis centre which is accessible 24-hours a day will provide essential help and support to borough addicts and their families.

“It will benefit the thousands of people whose lives are affected directly or otherwise by drugs.

“We are very grateful for the support we have received so far and would urge residents who have not yet signed the petition to do so.”

The centre is the brainchild of Advertiser Good Citizen Award winner Barbara Cooper, who nursed her teenage son back from the brink of a life-threatening addiction.

Through her pressure group Escape, she has received £1,000 to start a fundraising programme, but more than £25,000 is needed.
