On the learning curve in Hull

The Hull Daily Mail is to re-launch its successful Moving On Up campaign in a bid to improve the region’s GCSE results.

It has linked up with radio station Viking FM and the local education authority to help parents and children cope with the forthcoming exams.

A major part of the campaign will be The Learning Curve, an advice booklet which will be given to every Year 11 pupil in the city.

And a series of forums is planned at each secondary school in the area to give parents the chance to discuss their concerns with members of the education authority.

On top of this, the paper will print regular advice features for both parents and pupils.

The Moving On Up campaign was first launched in March 1998 and the Daily Mail has tried to make it bigger and better each year since then.

Last year it held The Great Debate, which saw parents invited to the Mail offices to put questions to panel of education experts including Lord Ron Dearing.

Education minister Estelle Morris has already registered her support for the campaign.

She said: “It’s good to see the Hull LEA working closely with the Hull Daily Mail and Viking on this exciting project focused on raising education standards.”
