New blood donors respond to call

Delighted staff at the Gloucester Citizen are celebrating after signing up 250 new blood donors in just six weeks in response to the paper’s Time For A Pint campaign.

During the campaign, the newspaper has featured stories from readers whose lives have been saved by blood donors.

Among them has been the mother of Citizen reporter Annelisa Macaulay-Lowe (to read her story click here) and journalist Tim Lezard (to read his story click here).

But the newspaper is not resting on its laurels. It wants to find ANOTHER 250 people to sign up over the next month and a half.

Geraldine Parker, of the National Blood Donor Service, said: “It’s absolutely brilliant to get that figure in a month and a half. We haven’t had to go out on the street and do a hard sell recruitment drive. It’s all been due to the campaign in the Citizen.”

Without the new donors, she added that the blood transfusion service would be facing a shortfall with the holiday season about to begin.
