MPs take on "glassing" issue

A newspaper campaign to use toughened glass and plastic bottles in nightspots to prevent injuries has been boosted by support in the House of Commons.

MPs are concerned that injuries caused by glasses can cause lasting physical and mental scarring.

Their Commons motion mirrors the Manchester Evening News Safe City Safe Glass campaign, launched last year.

The parliamentary group which tabled the motion praised the MEN campaign, with group leader Julie Morgan labelling it “a worthy idea”.

The newspaper’s initiative was sparked by the “glassing” of young mum in Manchester.
