MPs debate Advertiser eye clinics change

Eye clinics and equipment bought with money from a Bromsgrove Advertiser appeal may soon be relocated.

The clinics were set up two years ago at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove and the Alexandra in Redditch.

But the local hospitals trust wants to move them as far away as Kidderminster and Worcester.

MP Julie Kirkbride has presented a petition signed by hundreds of patients to Parliament.

She said; “I am furious the local NHS Trust is proposing to relocate the service far away from my many elderly and frail patients who are the most likely users of the eye clinics and ophthalmology services.”

Trust spokesman Richard Haynes said that the review is not yet complete but aims to provide the best possible eye care in the country.

He added: “Any proposals put forward will be on purely clinical grounds, not to cut cost or other reasons.”
