Mail leads 'United for Peace' message

A major multi-faith peace rally was held in Birmingham at the weekend, with help from the Evening Mail.

Midlanders of all faiths gathered at Chamberlain Square on Saturday to help spread the message that Birmingham is a harmonious society which welcomes people from all backgrounds.

The event was organised in the wake of London bombs and was given the full backing of the Evening Mail and editor Steve Dyson, in his first week at the paper.

Staff at the paper joined Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Quakers, Sikhs, Catholics and Methodists as well as people from other faiths to show their support and unite against terrorism.

Many held placards specially produced by the Evening Mail, which bore the words ‘United for Peace’.

Steve said: “This is our chance to stand up for what we believe is right and make a difference.

“The Mail must always take part in supporting important initiatives.”
