Mail aims to keep moving on up

The Hull Daily Mail is aiming to build on the success of its Moving On Up campaign, and help to improve the standards of the city’s schools even further.

Through the campaign, launched three years ago, the Mail has helped to improve the GCSE fortunes of the city’s schools and lift Hull off the bottom of the league tables.

And now the paper believes the time is ripe to build on the positive changes and the solid foundations which are in place.

Last year the paper published practical advice for pupils and their parents as well as producing revision guides – which it plans to do again this year.

It also held The Great Debate, where a panel from the city’s council answered questions about educational standards from members of the public.

In the coming term the paper will hold two surgeries aimed at giving parents and pupils the chance to have their say on how schools are run.

In addition it will also publish regular “how to” advice features to help pupils and their families, and news features about the positive innovations taking place in city schools.

Hull’s deputy education director, Dr Andy Swallow, said: “My message is onwards and upwards – I think we will look back and say 2001 was the year we turned the corner.

“The Moving On Up campaign has got the public’s attention.”
