Join the fight for league survival

Football fans are being asked to make the difference between survival and oblivion for the Grecians.

The Exeter Express & Echo is campaigning for a huge turnout at Exeter City’s home game when they play Lincoln City on Tuesday, March 18.

Fans are being told that they shouldn’t underestimate how big an impact a mass display of support can make.

And the Echo’s plea is being backed by current players, ex-City stars and the supporters’ club and trust.

Grecians officials have agreed to offer cut-price admission for children with vouchers from the Echo.

And to encourage City’s strikers to find the net, the newspaper has pledged to hand over £100 for every goal scored against the Imps.

The money will go to help school the next generation of stars in City’s Centre of Excellence.

Editor Steve Hall said: “Supporters can write in to show their backing for City but what we’re also looking for is for as many people as possible to attend the next home game.

“There’s a much bigger latent support than regularly visit the ground, and there’s no doubting the effect of what some people call the twelfth player – a good crowd getting behind the team.

“There are other problems at the club but they can be worried about after they have secured their league safety.”

Fans are urged to send their messages in on coupons published in the Echo each night between now and March 18 or by e-mailing, logging on to the Echo’s website or the independent Grecians website ExeWeb.

Fans from all corners of the country – and the globe – have already sent messages of support to Gary Peters’ team as they battle to beat the drop. Following the launch of We’re Here for City, scores of e-mails have been flooding in from as far afield as Tokyo, Washington DC and Freemantle in Australia.
