Hotline continues to get results

A drugs hotline set up by a newspaper six months ago is proving a continued success.

At first, the Wiltshire Gazette & Herald’s Shop A Pusher initiative was launched for only one week in conjunction with Wiltshire Constabulary.

But after calls flooded in, it was decided that the service should become a permanent feature.

There are now as many as 20 calls a week, but the newspaper and the police are still encouraging anyone with information about the sale and possession of drugs in the area to contact them in confidence.

PC Paul Rhys from Melksham’s divisional drugs unit said: “We want to know who, what, where, when, and how they know.

“Everything we get is useful to some extent but we want people to tell us as much as they can.

“We want to urge people to keep on calling it. It has already helped us with a number of jobs.”
