Hole lot of support from golfers

Nearly a hundred golfers have clubbed together to raise around £8,000 for a Scottish newspaper’s campaign to help local children.

Representing companies and businesses in the city, the golfers teed off at Newburgh Golf Course for the third annual Children 2000 tournament.

Twenty-three teams of four vied for the title and the replica of the famous Open Championship claret jug.

Eventually, after 18 gruelling holes the players from Prosper Engineering came out on top.

Evening Express promotions executive, Gillian Nicol, said: “It was such a fantastic day – and the weather was good to us.”

“We must have raised around £8,500 for Children 2000 which is great.”

The day’s golf was followed by a charity dinner and raffle, with both contributed to the total.

In order to qualify for a slice of the campaign money children’s groups have to send in as many tokens as possible which they cut out from the Evening Express.

The groups entering can be anything from a nursery to a youth club, the one with the most tokens each week will receive a donation from the fund.
