Haven appeal smashes £10,000 barrier

The East Anglian Daily Times A Haven for Maya campaign has exceeded all expectations by breaking the £10,000 barrier within a week.

Donations for two-year old Maya Felton, in the form of coupons printed in the paper, have been pouring in from readers all over the region.

Maya suffers from Epidermolysis Bullosa, a rare skin condition that only affects around 400 children in Britain. It causes her skin to tear and blister with even the slightest of touches and regular medical attention is required.

Fund raising events will also contribute to reaching the 15,000 target needed to build a playroom for Maya and her siblings.

Her previous play area, which she shared with her brother, Matthew, (10), and eight-year-old Martha, has been transformed into a mini medical room to provide care and attention for the little girl’s condition.

The proposed playroom will provide Maya with light relief from her treatment and will also allow her precious time with her family.

Her mum, Marlini, said, “It will be kind of sanctuary for her. A place where nice things happen to her. She has to go through so much with her medication, we just want her to have some happy times with her brother and sister.”
