A Millennium appeal to build new facilities at a Doncaster hospice has passed the half-million pound mark.
Fund-raising events by South Yorkshire Newspapers titles have boosted the total during the year.
The appeal was launched in June last year through the Doncaster Free Press and the South Yorkshire Times – the group’s two paid-for titles – and five frees: Doncaster Advertiser, Doncaster Courier, Goole and Thorne Courier, Mexborough Leader and The Entertainer.
The Millennium Million Campaign is to boost Phase II at the St John’s Hospice, which opened in 1992. It provides day care for around 50 patients each week – ten day care patients and ten in-patients daily.
Recent donations include a £1,500 cheque from the Doncaster Lions, £250 from the Boy and Barrel pub and £100 from Doncaster Bridge Club.
