Gazette sends royal invitation

The Hemel Hempstead Gazette has invited the Queen to visit the town as part of her Golden Jubilee celebrations next summer.

The Jubilee celebrations coincide with the anniversary of the Queen’s visit to Hemel Hempstead 50 years ago when she laid the foundation stone for the first new church in the town.

To mark the occasion, the Gazette is hoping that the Queen will make a return visit as part of her proposed tour of the country.

The Gazette is collecting signatures from its readers supporting the royal visit and it also hopes to organise thousands of commemorative crowns that will be handed out to mark the occasion.

A spokesman for Dacorum Borough Council said: “I hope the council and the Gazette can work together to make the Golden Jubilee celebrations in Dacorum memorable.”
