Gazette helipad idea could take off

The Somerset County Gazette looks like being successful in its campaign fora helipad to be provided at the county’s main hospital.

The BT West of England Newspaper of the Year recently highlighted the factthat Somerset now has its own air ambulance – but it does not have a suitablelanding site at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

Now, chiefs at the Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust are to conduct afeasibility study into the provision of a helipad.

County Gazette editor-in-chief Ken Bird said: “We launched the campaign after our news editor, Alison Hulls, wrote a feature on the air ambulance.

“We’re delighted the trust has taken notice and we’re keeping our fingerscrossed that this vital facility will be provided soon.”
