Express move to save the arts

A campaign to save Windsor Arts Centre has seen hundreds of people rush to give their support.

The campaign – backed by the Slough Express – aims to stop the popular venue being closed as a result of budget cuts.

More than 1,000 fans of the centre have signed a petition telling councillors they want it to remain open.

And volunteers have delivered letters to 2,000 homes in the area urging residents to write to councillors and Tory MP Michael Trend.

Other supporters of the campaign include seventies star Leo Sayer, who has offered to play a benefit gig at the venue.

A spokeswoman for the Windsor Arts Centre said: “We have been overwhelmed at the level of support – it is very encouraging.

“We are very grateful for the help of the Express in highlighting our plight.

“The stories were spot on and have helped to focus public opinion on the issue.”

A copy of the petition – as well as people and places to contact – is available in the newspaper.
