Echo enlists readers to offer support to America's victims

The Lincolnshire Echo is enlisting the help of its readers to offer support for the victims of the New York and Washington terrorist attacks.

The paper is asking its readers to write personal messages to bereaved families, as part of its Letter to America campaign, and send them to the paper which will make sure they reach the families who have lost loved ones.

The paper said: “Families who have suffered a tragic loss frequently find comfort in messages of support from people who have been touched by their plight.

“Relatives of people killed in previous terrorist outrages, including the Omagh bombing, have said how much they appreciated letters they received from all round the world.

“They were comforted to know that tens of thousands of people – most of whom they had never met – were thinking of them and praying for them.

“You don’t have to write long or detailed letters. A few simple words will be enough to let families know they are not alone in their hours of need.

“So many of us on this side of the Atlantic have felt helpless, as we watch the tragedy and the trauma unfold. Our Letter to America campaign – along with the books of condolence which have been opened around the county – will allow us to do something tangible to show our solidarity and support.”
