Court appearance follows newspaper reward pledge

An 18-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with killing a Bristol pensioner, who was robbed of just £5.

The arrest and subsequent court appearance came just a day after the Bristol Evening Post offered a £1,000 reward for fresh information on the case as part of the paper’s ongoing Save Our Streets campaign.

The teenager was charged with unlawfully killing 86-year-old Joyce Bryant, a great grandmother.

Her arrest was made together with that of a 22-year-old man who has been released on police bail.

Joyce Bryant died two weeks after she was robbed of her handbag, which contained just £5, as she walked near her home. She broke her hip in the attack and had an operation but never recovered.

The robbery took place out of sight of CCTV cameras, but the seconds before and after the attack were captured and the Post published footage in the hope of bringing forward potential witnesses.
