Courier partners AXA to support local charities

The Kent and Sussex Courier has teamed up with AXA Healthcare to launch an ambitious new campaign, which will award cash prizes of up to £10,000 to community projects.

Hundreds of local charities and organisations are signing up and applying to take part in the new community initiative, Heart of the Community.

The objective of Heart of the Community, the largest-ever initiative promoted by the Kent and Sussex Courier, is to award local community projects small grants to assist them.

Kent and Sussex Courier editor Giles Broadbent said the newspaper frequently received letters from people asking for help with their projects but added that money was the “highest hurdle”.

He said: “Where we can, we do. And while we cannot give money to every cause that comes our way, however deserving, we can provide the oxygen of publicity.

“For many organisations and causes, that is better than money itself.

“And that is the driving force behind this initiative. That is why the Kent and Sussex Courier sat down with our partners in AXA Healthcare and devised Heart of the Community.

“At last, instead of meaning well – doing what we can but never enough – we have the opportunity to make a practical difference to some key causes across our region.”
