Kids’ favourites Ant and Dec top the list of stars backing the Newcastle Evening Chronicle’s chosen campaign.

The jovial duo have agreed to become VIP patrons of the Sunshine Fund, a charity which aims to raise money for sick and needy children.

Other names who have signed up include Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards, actress Denise Welch and film star Chris Beattie.

Sunshine fund co-ordinator Nikki McCann said: “They were all sent a letter asking if they’d agree to come on board and every one of them said they would love to be Sunshine VIPs.

“By having well known personalities on board it does raise the profile and shows what an important fund it is.”

The Chronicle is supporting the campaign through its Switch On to Sunshine campaign.
