Celebrating achievements

A celebration event to mark West Cumbria’s achievements is being organised by the Carlisle News & Star for Pride In West Cumbria Weekend.

It is part of the paper’s long-running campaign to promote the region.

Offers of support for the event, on September 23, have overwhelmed the paper with more than 40 organsiations lined up to take part.

The event will give the public a chance to see behind the scenes of some of the area’s success stories.

As part of the celebrations, visitors will also have the chance to tour fire stations, clamber over lifeboats, see inside a police station and visit tourist attractions for half price.

The News & Star reported: “The Oval Centre will be putting on activities including bouncy castles, free boxercise sessions, cartoons for kids and a chance to cheer on the Salterbeck Storm Rugby League side.

“Haig Colliery Mining Museum is inviting former miners to join the public on free tours which will offer a great insight into why West Cumbria is so proud of its industrial heritage.”

Full events listings will be carried in the paper.
