Campaign boost in south west

A bypass near Torbay could be a step closer after an influential team of Government advisors backed calls for a new road.

The Torquay Herald Express has been behind a campaign fighting for a Kingskerswell by-pass to replace the traffic-choked A380 that links Torbay to the rest of the country.

And now the new road plan is just one of four major projects supported by Government inspectors putting together a package of priority transport investments across the South West.

They spoke out in a response to a draft regional planning blueprint published by local authorities in the area.

The team said there was no viable alternative to a new highway.

It also listed upgrading the A30/A303 trunk road through Devon and Cornwall, Barnstaple’s western bypass and a link road in Dorset.

Torbay environmental services chairman Ian Oxley told the Herald Express: “Hopefully it will be all systems go now.”
