Booklet boost to drink campaign

The dangerous impact of alcohol is being highlighted to Tynesiders in a 24-page booklet from the Shields Gazette.

Thousands of the glossy pamphlets are being sent out across South Tyneside.

The move was sparked by the overwhelming public response to the Gazette’s Drinkwise campaign last year – which was picked up by the Prime Minister, who sent a message of support.

The information booklet, which distils the information carried during the campaign, covers topics from youth drinking and disorder through the various health issues and the homeless.

It is being sent out to schools, pubs, clubs and community groups across the area.

Gazette editor Rob Lawson said: “Drinkwise was a hard-hitting factual piece of journalism, which made many friends and admirers when it was published in the Gazette.

“We felt it only right that it be seen by as many people as possible and the pamphlet seemed the ideal way to make sure people in the borough had access to it.”

The publication was compiled in conjunction with health authorities and health promotion units.
