Bingo! Shopper's war on thugs adds in-paper 'game'

The News Shopper has unveiled its latest weapon in the war against vandals and mindless thugs – Shop A Yob Bingo.

The new game, exclusive to Shopper readers, takes the successful campaign a step further by offering prizes for naming and shaming yobs.

Together with London Central Buses, the paper is running four pages of CCTV images of more than 80 yobs who have caused thousands of pounds of damage to buses.

Readers who can identify three yobbos in a row, or get four corners on any one page, could win themselves a digital camera.

Group managing editor Andrew Parkes said: “We’re sick and tired of the yobs who think they can ruin the lives of ordinary people without being brought to task.

“Why should we be terrorised and have things we care about destroyed by jumped-up, thoughtless scumbags like these?

“The massive success of Shop A Yob, which led to backing from Home Secretary David Blunkett and Met Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens, proves we all feel exactly the same.

Shop A Yob Bingo is a real chance for our readers to do something and it couldn’t be simpler.

“London Central Buses and News Shopper are united in saying, remove this scum for the good of us all.”

Launched in 2002, Shop A Yob has helped to reduce crime and vandalism on buses by up to 80 per cent and helped win the paper a Newspaper Society gong for UK’s Best Campaigning Newspaper last year.
