Bank to double funds raised by Argus

The South Wales Argus has launched an appeal to raise extra cash for a local hospice which it helped to set up.

Five years ago the paper donated a total of £250,000, including £100,000 from the Julian Hodge Bank, to help get the St Anne’s Hospice up and running.

The Argus has now launched the St Anne’s Hospice Appeal with the aim of raising £50,000 for equipment and new facilities in six months. If the appeal is successful, the Julian Hodge Bank, an independent Welsh bank, will match the amount.

“I am delighted to support St Anne’s Hospice again,” said Argus editor Gerry Keighley.

“Our last appeal five years ago helped it get up and running and the benefits to the community have been enormous. This is why we are supporting the hospice again.”

“I know that we call on our readers’ generosity constantly, but I am sure they will come good again. If every reader donated the price of only one lottery ticket to the appeal we would fly past the target,” he added.

All money raised will be used for equipment and facilities at the acute in-patient hospice, where patients and staff have given their full backing to the campaign.

“We are very grateful to the South Wales Argus for their kindness in running the six-month appeal which will allow us to take up the opportunity of unlocking the generous offer of matched funding from the Julian Hodge Bank,” said Philip Stockley, St Anne’s director of fundraising.
