Arise Sir Bobby!

The campaign is on to get former England football manager Bobby Robson a knighthood.

It’s not being led by the people of Tyneside, where he is manager of Newcastle United, but by the population of Ipswich, where he was manager of Ipswich Town for 13 years.

The Evening Star is fighting its corner and is determined to help Bobby become “Sir” in the Queen’s jubilee year.

It cites his domestic football successes as a good reason – as well as his time as England football manager when he led the team to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup.

The Star said: “Ipswich Town already have one illustrious football knight in their history – Sir Alf Ramsay – now it is time for the achievements of the club’s other legendary manager to be honoured in the same way.”
