Advertiser leads radio station call

The stars came out to show their support for the Maidenhead Advertiser’s new campaign – to get the town its very own local radio station.

Rolf Harris, Michael Parkinson and Jimmy Tarbuck have all given their support to the newspaper’s efforts.

The Advertiser has even drawn up its own plans for the new station and given it the name Jewel FM.

It unveiled them at a gala opening of Norden Farm Centre for the Arts.

As part of the push, the newspaper has started a petition calling on the radio authority to grant the station a licence. And the three celebrities were given the honour of being the first to sign up.

Michael Parkinson said: “Jewel FM is a great idea and a brilliant initiative from the Maidenhead Advertiser.

“There is a gap in the market place for a radio station which is just for the people of Maidenhead and I and all my colleagues are delighted to give it our support.”

The Advertiser is now planning to run a wide public awareness campaign calling on locals to give their views to help shape the format of the radio station.
