The Yorkshire Evening Post is behind a bid to raise £400,000 in 16 weeks to save the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
It is calling on its readers and the wide population of Yorkshire to support the life-saving group.
The paper has taken the chance to explain how the air ambulance works, how it is funded – and spoken to people who owe it their lives.
Initial costs were met by sponsorship from the AA and when that ended the Government gave a £350,000 grant, with fundraisers bringing in an extra £250,000.
Head of fund raising John Sutherland said: “We need to find £400,000 before the end of March and we are working flat-out to reach that target.
“It would be an absolute tragedy if we lost this service and shameful if Yorkshire did not have a service of this stature.”
