Cambridge journalist retires after 50 years

Cambridge Evening News journalist Colin Moule has retired after a 50-year career with the paper and its Weekly News sister series.

Colin, (66), began working on the evening paper, then called the Cambridge Daily News, in 1951 – when journalists served a seven-year apprenticeship and the starting salary was just 35 shillings (£1.75) a week.

During his time at the papers he held a number of senior posts, and was editor of the Weekly News series between 1987 and 1997.

Most recently, Colin co-ordinated the Community News content of the Evening News.

To mark his retirement, Lord Iliffe, a director of Cambridge Newspapers, presented Colin with an engraved ship’s clock, on behalf of the company.

Paying tribute to Colin, Evening News editor Colin Grant, said: “His dedication, loyalty and commitment cannot be matched.

“He has also been a superb ambassador for Cambridge Newspapers and he will be sorely missed.”
