'Bun in the oven' journalist plans new volume on fatherhood

A former journalist has published an emotional and emotive journal about his path to becoming a father.

As soon as the pregnancy was confirmed, Peter Naldrett built up a personal and touching account of his journey.

And after a few weeks Peter, who is now a teacher, decided to turn his journal into a book.

The former Rotherham Advertiser reporter said his tale A Bun in the Oven: The Diary of Dad was about a normal pregnancy – and charted how a normal man’s world changes in every way once an egg is fertilised.

He said: “I’ve tried to make it informative, funny and emotional and hopefully men who find themselves a bit overwhelmed by the whole pregnancy thing will be able to get something out of it.

“When I’d finished the rough version I had so much I had to edit it down.

“I’d recorded absolutely everything so obviously we had to cut bits out, especially bits that were near to the bone.”

A Bun in the Oven is to be followed by a sequel – another diary charting the first six months with little Toby, who is now 17 months old.
